10. PAY AND EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS

We are committed to ending zero contracts, introducing sectoral bargaining, restoring trade union rights, increasing the pay of the lowest and reducing the differential between lowest and highest paid worker in any organization. We will campaign to ensure that the highest paid worker in any organization earns no more than five times the salary paid to the lowest-paid worker.

A Labour Cornwall Council will require all private contractors seeking work in the public realm to match the pay levels and conditions therein.

The council will at all times never pay less that the Real Living Wage and will not treat with any suppliers or contractors who pay less than the Living Wage.

For any company or public sector organisation which has a workforce of more than 250 people, Labour proposes workers’ representation on the board of management.

Labour will encourage all employers, from the very smallest to the largest, to recognise trade unions, and to offer to link payroll to union subscriptions.

The council will ONLY subcontract out to businesses which have trade union recognition, and that encourage trade union membership.
